Any other Boston-area folks out there see (the) Lemonheads at the Paradise last night?

It was a very good show, as Dando and his latest version of the band were back in town to promote the new CD/DVD version.

They came straight out and ran through IASAR, from start to finish.

Well, almost. They ran through the original release of the album, ending with Frank Mills and omitting Mrs. Robinson, which was tacked onto susequent pressings after it became a minor, surprise hit. Nobody seemed to mind.

While ED isn't the most energetic perfomer, the band sounded great (as did the mix), and his guitar playing was very good. Allison's Starting to Happen, Kitchen and Ceiling Fan in My Spoon were fantastic...no surpise that these 'Side Two' songs sounded the best, as it took a few tracks for the band to warm up.

After Frank Mills, Dando continued in the solo electric guitar vein for several songs (maybe a couple too many), including 'Outdoor Type', Mike Nesmith's/Stone Pony's 'Different Drum' and Neil Young's 'Don't Cry No Tears'. (The latter track appears to be a power poppers dream, as I've also heard it covered live by Matthew Sweet and also on his Son of Altered Beast EP).

For the encore, ED returned with the one and only Nash Kato of Urge Overkill to sing an unrehearsed and fun version of Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon.

A truly unexpected treat.

>From where I was standing (stage right), I could see NK in the stage doorway for most of the show, hanging out, and I thought to myself, 'Jeez, it looks like him, but it can't be him'.
Sure enough, it was. (Possibly he was involved with the opening band, who I missed?)

They ended with Great Big NO, but didn't play Into Your Arms (huh?).

All in all, an excellent night. Dando ripped me off when I saw Lemonheads in Providence in '93, as he was messed up and slept-walked through the tunes.

So now I guess we're even.
