Although the House Of Guitars is the more famous store in town, for music
shopping the Record Archive has it all over them (HOG is still where you
want to buy that instrument, though). Archive's original location closed and
I feared their only other one would suffer a similar fate, but they just
moved into a place about 3 times *larger*...I think the vinyl resurgence has
helped, plus they've been more aggressive about listing things on eBay and
Amazon. Competing with global computer shoppers means less booty for me to
stumble across, but anything that keeps them alive is fine by me. Great
people plus a place I still like to wander around in to recharge my
batteries.
I haven't been in Best Buy in a while, but if the Underground Garage
sections are down, that sucks. When I talked with LS and mentioned how
anti-underground such a thing was, he candidly said that while his focus is
on the indies, he owed it to the artists to get the word out, and the
cross-over in clientele probably wasn't going to be that large. (If I were
an artist, I can't honestly say that I wouldn't want my album available
everywhere possible.) Hopefully this doesn't mean that LSUG and Wicked Cool
are struggling even more than I fear they are.
b, who is playing and enjoying SHOTTER'S NATION (babyshambles) far more than
he ever expected he would, and wonders why he didn't hear it until now...
