Okay, a lot of you guys know more about this than I do, I imagine, so
maybe one of you can solve a real puzzler for me.

Sometime back my laptop's built-in speakers just quit. No sound, no
nothing. I figured it was a hardware issue, but never got it fixed
because I had plug-in speakers and it didn't really matter.

Fine. So earlier today, out of nowhere, and without me touching
ANYTHING, the onboard speakers started working again. Which is good,
except now neither of the speaker/headphone outputs are working.

Guh?

I was using Skype earlier, but didn't mess with any settings, and
besides, I've used Skype before and this didn't happen.

I'm glad my onboard speakers are back, but the fact that I don't have
headphones or speaker function is not good. And while I'm normally
pretty good at working things like settings, this one has me purely baffled.

Ideas?
