Haven't seen the DVD, but can easily imagine it seeming OTT, not unlike a close up on Olivier's facial expressions when he's playing to the rafters. I actually get a big kick out of his histrionics live, largely becuase he clearly has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek. One of the most interesting about Butch is that he can play rock historian, glam rock ironicist and sincere emo boy - appealing to Cheap Trick fogeys like me and 16 year old girls -- all at the same time. That's a pretty impressive tightrope to walk.

I recently watched the live Butch Walker DVD and came away thinking he's
one act I never have to see live. Way to over-the-top and theatrical (in
an emo kinda way and not the Peter-Gabriel-in-a-fox-mask kind of way).
I've been a fan of Butch's for a long time, but my enthusiasm for him
dropped a notch after watching the video.

Count me in as a fan of Butch Walker. This guy really delievers in a
live performance. I took my sister and neice to see him a few years
back when his "Letters" album had been out for over a year. They had
never heard of him or had much of an interest but since I was visiting
from out of town - I told them it was my treat. They reluctantly tagged
along. They were floored by him and my niece freaked out at how
"awesome" he was. She was even more blown away by the fact that Butch
actually took a photograph with her. He got two new fans for life that
night. I should also add that his band that night was American Hi-Fi.
Both the band and Butch were really nice humble bunch of guys with a
great sense of humor.

A friend of mine has flown out of Hawaii several times to see Butch in
concert. If he ever hits your area. Check him out.
