Further to this Partridge and Lou Reed theme. Believe it or not, I once peed
beside Andy Partridge in the men's loo at Virgin Records label headquarters
in Portobello Road London in 1984 (XTC had just released the single This
World Over - the best Police song that Sting never wrote) - from the Big
Express album. After we washed our hands (yes, mom I washed my hands) we
shook hands and went over to the promo department where Andy gave me the
single, in both the 7 inch format (with bonus postcards) and the 12 inch
vinyl single. Needless to say as an XTC fan it was pretty freakin cool for
me.
A couple of years ago, I was taking a "walk on the west side" i.e. in the
West Village in NYC when I noticed a dog under a table of a sidewalk cafe.
When I looked up at the dog's owners I found myself staring at Lou Reed and
Laurie Anderson having a serious looking conversation. I didn't dare
interrupt.
