Regarding FOW: put me in the "I don't get it" camp.
Never seem 'em live because their songs really don't
do all that much for me. Sure, I walk away humming
"Sick Day" or "Stacy's Mom" -- but I also walk away
humming "Happy Birthday" (with cake on my face as
well). The point being simple melodies stick in
people's minds like cotton candy to a cardboard
handle.

I consider the gentlemen from FOW to be exceptionally
talented songwriters with a knack (pun intended) for
familiar melodies, big choruses, and rather funny/wry
lyrics. I would go so far as to say they are
definitely among the finest purveyors of this genre in
the world today.

I've been flamed here for saying this before, but I
just don't find all that much originality in FOW's
music. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, pop music isn't about
originality...save it, please.

Regarding Pat Dinizio; you mean people actually
shelled out $1,200 annually for demos, pictures,
advance tickets and an in-house performance, and
received nothing?

Nothing against Pat D. but DAMN that's a lot of money,
relatively speaking. Didn't anyone complain about the
lack of promised goods?

Regarding new music, man, I wish I'd added this to my
top 2007 list (just got it last week): CIRCA: (s/t).
Former members of Yes (all eras) write and release a
beautiful album chock-full of incredibly moving and
exceptionally interesting songs (to me, anyway).
There's an insanely gorgeous ballad called "Together
We Are" that would sit nicely with Oranges and
Lemons-era Andy Partridge or vintage Todd Rundgren.
It's one of those songs that I heard once, passed out,
then had to re-listen another 25 times just for the
sheer rush of the mindblowing changes. It's nice that
life still continues to throw me "benchmark" songs
this late in the game...

Classifiers will place this album squarely in the
"prog rock" catagory, but as a fan of great
songwriting, I'm not so easily convinced. Of course,
there are some songs that are breathtaking examples of
musicians at the top of their game, but it's tempered
with exceptional songs. The point being, it's not
about the technical abilities of the band, it's about
the music. Really great album, highly recommended for
fans of Trevor Rabin or classic Yes or even XTC to a
lesser extent. www.circahq.com
