I've been dipping into the power pop canon based on the SSA book. And I'm shocked by the extent to which I'm wholly unmoved by records that are apparently consensus great albums of the genre. Some of the things I've picked up I've liked but they sounded a little too generic to me to be considered great (a.g. the Adam Schmidt, although I do like it.) Others, I just totally don't get (Paul Collins Beat.)
Not a criticism, just interesting the extent to which one's mileage may vary.
