Hi Michael:

First, thanks for all your time and effort in managing this group. As someone who runs another music-based Yahoo Group with over 500 subscribers, I understand your frustration.

On a positive note, I can't count the great number of artists and music I have "discovered" as a result of this list and the people on it. Their music has brought real joy to my life and that's worth something.

Having said that, please take the following comments in the respectful way they were meant.

Believe it or not, my second reaction was that shutting down Audities was, well, somewhat selfish of you. In essence, Audities belongs to those on the list, not just the Admin, and while shutting it down is your "right" it should not be your "priviledge".

Maybe the solution is for you to take a break and let someone else take over the list or convert it to a Yahoo Group. You could choose to stay or leave, temporaily or permanently. In my experience, I've found that having a committee of two or three admins works best.

Beyond your personal satisfaction at pressing the red button (gratuitous pop reference), what purpose does it serve?

Thanks again.

Sorry Bryan, he's already unsubscribed himself :)

Seriously, this list has outlived its usefulness. We're all so
very tired - it so shows in the posts. It has for a long time.
All the bickering, core subscribers leaving week by week,
disappearing into lurkerdom. I doubt anyone's heart is really
in it anymore. Let's face it: the keg's empty, the record
player's broke and the party ended at 3AM, but we haven't
found the sense to pack it in & go home to sleep it off.

So it finally hit me that the solution was to just end it.

I have decided to end the operation of the Audities-List.

*********************************************************

There... good... I said it. Feels really good (no regrets).

Not today, but in 2 weeks this list will cease operation.
I'm setting a date - Feb 17, 2008, which is a Sunday.
Sometime that afternoon I will just shut Audities off.

So......

Consider this a golden opportunity. Use the next 2 weeks to
organize a new list or maybe a web forum (I like those, better
controls/moderation and easy to follow the threads you like).

BUT PLEASE, DO NOT CALL IT AUDITIES!!
Let the dead rest in peace - please.

Time for something new. I am not open to letting someone
assume operation. Why continue to flog a dead horse? And as
the sole operator of the list for the past 11+ years, I have
a personal need for it to truly be over. I won't reconsider.

Make sure to have your address book in order. Take time to
say your goodbyes, or whatever. Or keep posting until the
very end. Showtime, folks.

The Yahoo Audities archive will remain for the foreseeable
future, but will remain non-postable by subscribers. I will
turn it into an announcement only list so folks here who are
creating a new forum, or have some news of importance, etc,
can still reach the Audities membership (if subscribed to
the Yahoo archive). I'll post details later.

That's about it for tonight. I'm gonna make a stiff drink,
watch the rest of the Warriors game, then work on my all
time Audities pop list.

Goodnight, & remember, Pop Rules!!

  - Michael Coxe, upcoming ex-Audities-List Administrator
