Her label thought she should have 'professional' producers and set her career back about 3 years. Had she stayed with Tyson, she would be bigger than most these days.
She's writing and recording as we speak, from what I understand, maybe this time without Major Label interference.
Keep an eye on (Leslie) Feist...she also, is the real deal...

Speaking of Amanda Marshall, her first self-titled CD from the mid-nineties is one of my favourites of the entire decade. Great songwriting, great production, great voice, great CD. Subsequent efforts didn't quite live up to the promise of her first CD and were muddled by overbearing production by the likes of Eric Bazilian and Don Was.

Wonder what she's up to these days?

Oh dear...one more medicore talent, (this one well backed with loot), that Auditeers have embraced because no one has ever heard of her.
You guys ever hear of any GOOD female singers? Leslie Feist? Laura Huber? Amanda Marshall?...oh wait...they may be doing too well for you to like them.
Ditto your top 20/200/10 lists. Why do you think that it's important for the rest of us to know what you like/own in your 'CD' collection?
I don't.
Does anyone?
And further...why does it seem that you pride yourselves in supporting mediocre 'pop' bands that have no chance in hell of EVER breaking through, instead of searching out the 'pop' bands that DO have a chance like Marianas Trench, Bedouin Soundclash, Feist, Jason Collett, Tokyo Police Club, Bicycles, and a pile of worthies even I'M not aware of?
Swear to God, all these self absorbed lists are so boring that, like Jaimie Vernon, I have trouble staying awake to read these posts.
Use Fountains Of Wayne as a template...if some band from Littleville USA makes a CD in the bass players basement and you want to encourage them, email them offlist and send your support, but if you keep recommending C- Bands on this list, I'm just going to have to think that you think some of us have ears of clay, and want to lie to these kids that have every right to make recordings, but no hope for a career.
This is the only list I belong to where people put up the CD's they have for sale, and reading the lists, make me want to ask why bought this crap in the first place.
...and by the way...The Wackers, "Gotta Have Pop". The Romantics demos I did that got them their Nemporer deal...I don't care if you like or get what they are or not. I will say this...If you think ELO, Big Star, or XTC are important 'Power Pop' bands, then you clearly do not get the power pop of The Records, Ducks Deluxe, The Jags, Monks, Pilot, or...are you ready...Buffalo Springfield.
I can't believe you call yourselves Beatle fans, and dismiss the incredible work of The Vinyl Kings, and compare the copy-cat recordings of Utopia and The Rutles to The Fabs favourably instead.
...and if all of that isn't enough to piss you all off...Amy Winehouse is a skank and average at best, and most of your 'gems' barely qualify as real records.
Now have fun yelling at me...that's why I'm here...

bob
PS...I was in The Ratz...after Gary Duncun left...
