i was away for the last two weeks in Europe and saw things unfold but
unable to reply (different
email address).... wow.... I only subscribe to three lists and
Audities has been the best for news/opinion/etc...

Please make sure when the changeover occurs that it's well noted so
we can all make the change properly...

and speaking of London - I just got back from there and here are some
shopping highlights from
a very limited schedule:

- FOPP - Covent Garden - it's back (this chain went under and has
come back) and bargains a-plenty!!
great cheap book selection also... not a lot of deep catalog but
great remainders and bargain prices

Foyles - bookstore- Charing Cross Road (Tottenham Tube) - if you're
looking for a specific music book, it will be here (Suzi Quatro -
"Unzipped")

Zavvi & HMV - Zavvi is Virgin re-named - some deals to be had but
best to compare between the two.
catalog stuff and some new releases are at $26 (!!)... lots of
remainder music book deals in each

Charing Cross Road - has lots of bookstores (used/new/remainder) with
various finds to be had.. also
great music shops (cool guitars a-plenty - no Vox guitars, tho)

Shelly's shoes - covent garden - Beatle boots - CHEAP! - big sale on now

Camden Market - visit the new Stables shops area - great second hand
vinyl/cd shops - lots of rare DVD.
one guy has a huge vinyl dollar bin full of great 80s-90s pop (shoes,
etc) - i picked up a mint first Cindy Lee Berryhill lp for 1 pound...
they may only be open on Sat/Sunday...

and bonus: LIVERPOOL

- Probe Records - indie store for vinyl/garage/alternative/etc - only
place in Liverpool that had the Candy Payne cd. Slater St.
- Hairy Records - great used vinyl but guide priced - you need a few
hours and bins are tightly packed
- Beatle Shop - Matthew St, the one downstairs NOT the one in the
shopping mall - altho, if you want Beatle boots and suits, visit the
clothing shop next to the Beatle shop in the Matthew St. mall
- bands going over for IPO - beware the non-late night food
availability!! We found Tesco in the central mall area to be open all
night (sandwiches, etc). Most restaurants close early except for the
few in the Chinatown area.
- if you book the Travelodge hotel - they are no frills (no shampoo or soap)
- St John's Mall - downstairs has a remainder book shop with good
bargains (found a 60s Manchester scene book for $4)

just unpacking all my goodies now (plus my usual hoard of vinyl from
French flea markets - beware the Easyjet fine for overweight
luggage!!! it's nasty...)
