This is a bit off topic, and certainly off the topic
of the moment, but it occurred to me that it's been
some years since I mentioned our record fair on this
list, and since we're looking for an infusion of new
blood this year, why not try (the waning days of)
audities?

So here's the scoop. Each year in Chicago, we put on
a big record fair. In fact, it's grown into the
largest fair in the midwest. We have vinyl dealers
from a wide array of genres (and plenty with a mix of
stuff), as well as indie labels, poster artists, a
handful of crafters, and some folks selling a mix of
CDs/DVDs/8-tracks/etc. We also have live music, DJs,
and other entertainment all weekend long. It's a real
event, much like the WFMU fair on the east coast.

This year's fair is set for April 12 & 13 in Chicago,
and we'd love to have some new dealers. We have a lot
of guys (and a handful of women) who come year after
year, so we want to make sure we're welcoming new
folks too. Shoppers and dealers come from all over
the country for this fair, and everyone does well and
has a great time.

If you're a vinyl dealer (or if you just have a lot of
old vinyl you'd like to unload), please e-mail me
offlist to find out details.

We launched this fair as a fundraiser for the
community radio station where I was program director
for eight years, WLUW. But since that station is
owned by a university that is turning it back into a
student station (and canned the station management),
we've moved the record fair over to be a fundraiser
for a new non-profit I founded called the Chicago
Independent Radio Project (aka "CHIRP"). We're
working to loosen up low-power FM laws to allow new
stations in urban areas, with the goal of eventually
securing a new license for Chicago. If you want to
know more about that effort, e-mail me or check out
http://www.myspace.com/chicagoindieradio.

Thanks,
--Shawn
