Like many others, I've been here (on digest) for years. I think my
first digest was #13 - so, probably about 2 weeks in. I was introduced
to the list by Amy Nyman (who I think is still here), when we "met" at
music community website called "Firefly". She send me some rare Gigolo
Aunts stuff, and told me about audities.com.

Over the years, I found lots of great music here, but didn't post all
that often. In fact, due to my fairly busy professional/personal life,
the digests would accumulate in their own little Outlook folder for a
week or so, then I would consume them. This almost always gave me great
pleasure, similar to when I was a kid and would save the icing from my
Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets for last. In fact, it was only this
morning that I read through the last couple weeks of digests and the
whole-straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back issue.

Although I only met a few Auditeers in person (David Bash, Ray
Gianchetti, Mark Hershberger at IPO Philadelphia), I sure felt like I
"met" a lot of people over the years. On the list, we had our Twee
discussions, our Gier controversy and lots of stuff that involved
Stewart. (My favorite Stewart story was when Krispy Kreme come to the
Boston area, maybe the funniest story I ever read on this list ...
Stewart, I think you should tell that one again prior to the list
shutdown!). I participated in the original Tape Tree (trading with
David Bash!), then a few SOTTs, and was just overwhelmed by some great
music. I traded CD-Rs of old vinyl albums that never made it to CD,
most recently trading some great Chilliwack stuff with Jaimie and Hersh.
Hell, back in the early days, I used to read Bill Holmes old page on
Geocities, where I picked up tips on great music from groups such as
SilverJet (of course, I thought Bill was from Houston, since he loved
those Astros and --yes, they were still in Houston then --- the Oilers).
Can't forget Bill Mastro, either, for running the SOTTs over the years
(and for some great baseball talk).

Probably my favorite Audities experience was linked to a SOTT (I think
it was 11) - I had put a song by Blue Steel called "Friends of Lovers"
on my contribution, and Michael Coxe put the awesome "Back on the
Streets" by the Michael Guthrie Band on his. We ended up trading CD-Rs
of the groups albums, and DIRECT HITS continues to be one of my all-time
faves. In fact, when I get around to finishing my all-time top 20, it
will probably be in there somewhere. Michael, let me join the voices of
everyone else in thanking you for your hard work all of these years.
You did an awesome job, and I look forward to reading your contributions
as a subscriber to the next generation of this list.

I'll close by promoting my early candidate for 2008 album of the year
(again) - WHERE TO BEGIN by Ike. John Faye and company (Cliff Hillis
and Dave Anthony have left the band, but Joann Schmidt has stayed on
with newcomers Brett Talley and Tom Kristich) really up the ante on this
one. This one has more of a harder edge than 2005's IN REAL LIFE, even
more than the JOHN FAYE POWER TRIP album. The single "We Like Sugar" is
getting some airplay on local rock giant WMMR, which is very unusual for
an indie around here. Check them out at www.myspace.com/ike.

Thanks for listening to the ramble. Catch you all on the new list (I'm
partial to Pop Underground as well).

Mike
