Just to satisfy my curiousity I had to go and find out what triggered
all of this non-music talk and something strong enough to bring down a
list which was and is a better thing to have than not to have.

Bob said: " My 2 cents...and btw...I don't care what CD's any of you
own or what your top CD's of whatever year you think are important. If
you love this music, talk about why and what, don't continue to bore
people like me with how obscure you can be. Believe me, I chck out
most of what is recommended on this site and...thank God most of you
don't own record companies...
"

Aside from the apostrophe in "CD'S" which I keep seeing all over these
list and the pedant in me has to really struggle hard not to point out
all the time.

I guess for me I wouldn't say it's a rant but I don't want to not
mention a band i've heard of in case someone thinks i'm trying to be
obscure and am just mentioning them as part of some one-upmanship. If
I like stuff I mention it, if I don't then I'll normally keep it
off-list. If someone mentions a band which I think is really awful
then I may post a comment saying so - but i'd never been so conceited
as to imply that my opinion is any more or less valid than someone
elses.

Bob: "thank God most of you don't own record companies...".

What? So unless a band is commercially viable then it shouldn't get a
mention on this list?

Mmmm.

Some people on this list get completely nuts because I said something in disagreement, but it's ok for them to dis my work, (or anyone else's, The Eagles and Vinyl Kings come to mind in the past), and I'm supposed to go nuts? I don't make qualitive statements about art...you can't. It is different things to different people, which is why I am dumbfounded by people like Stewart Mason, who take umbrage at the merest hint of disagreement.

Everyone's taste is different. Most of what is 'popular' these days isn't so much because it's good, but because it has the most attention. Nothing new, really, but if you can see through the mediocrity of so much popular stuff, (Hot Pockets? Doritos? Jessica Simpson...nice body though...), and seek out lesser known but, to you, more worthy product, why don't you use your belief and email labels, radio stations, start an internet station, and other related moves that totally fit the whole concept of this list.
