I don't post more than once or twice a year, mainly because I don't know
anything. I have subscribed to audities for many years. Previous to that I
subscribed to a list called "Poprocks" which a woman started many, many
years ago, I think out of The Posies list. She held a contest for the name
of the list and I submitted poprocks in honor of the candy I remembered from
the 1970s.
I mention it because I think it is my only contribution to the world of
power pop. Ever. In fact, I know it is. I'm not much of a contributor --
more of a leech. Sorry.
I don't know anyone here. I have known "Bill Holmes" in the way we all know
people online since the 1990s when we were on the Graham Parker list and we
both, for a brief period, wrote for an online 'zine called Consummable
Online. He was once described to me by a mutual friend (Dan Aloi) as a
person with a "preternatural ability to get back stage." I am aware that
John Micek lives or maybe once lived in Pennsylvania, but it must be/have
been in one of the places that has people and clubs. My area of the state
has few of either. I think I saw John on TV once discussing one thing or
another. Seriously. He's been on TV. Not in a Robbie Rist sorta way, but
still. (This is all a way of saying that I read the list carefully and have
enjoyed the various goings on, the most recent metldown notwithstanding).
Living where I do, and being of "a certain age," I don't have access to any
"scene" or performances of any note. I have to count on my online sources
for new music suggestions and I have stayed with audities for so many years
because I get lots of recommendations all the time. For this I thank you
all, more especially Michael Coxe, who approved my request to join the group
all those years ago.
