Not to flood the list with mere concurrence but: yes, to this. Not just
opinion, it's more than a feeling.

Also, I agree that the lightest possible hand in managing the list will be
the best for long term life and livelihood of the list. Thus, I'd prefer the
rules be very, very limited. As I said, I've been here since close to the
inception of this list and others should chime in - but I think that the
list will not be well served by a strong management presence.

Still, I'm not sure what to offer re: the question of Uncle Bob. I do know
this. He crossed the line from the moment he instigated this recent
firestorm with provocative and non-substantive posts. He fanned the flames
of discord - and once confronted by many folks he simply told people to take
their gripes off list. He was not (and has not been, unless I missed
something) contrite to the list and seems to see nothing reckless or
damaging in his behavior.

Like I said, I don't want a lot of rules, but in their absence either a
community or moderator response is needed to limit damage. I know there has
been at least one precedent of someone being suspended and subsequently
returning on a VERY short leash after behavior that was quite similar to
this. I think there was one person who was dropped for their posts, but
perhaps others could refresh us. I really don't track that sorta stuff!

I am not questioning how Michael ran Audities - I have privately thanked him
and do it here again. While I've met only a handful of you over the years,
it's been consistently positive. And I think that's the tip of the iceberg.
The folks who I've corresponded with over the years due to this list, are a
remarkably knowledgeable, kind and generous group of people. It's been an
amazing ride and my life is much the richer for the good fortune of spending
time with all of the Auditeers over the years. But now sure does seem like a
good time to figure out what has always worked about Audities and perhaps to
tweak the thing a bit, too.

I'm mostly thinking out loud, which unfortunately means - too many words
and too little coherence. I hope there's a little something good in there to
mull and hope we can keep thinking out loud.

Oh and I did get a list invitation request from someone on this list, I
think it was Aaron Milenski. I'm not sure if this is just an offshoot or
what it was. I think it's called Powerpopaholic or something like that.
Certainly any of could start any list we we want and that name would always
sound good to me under most circumstances.

But as I said at the start, I want a broader vision for the whatever form
the continuation of this list takes. It was the combination of Jellyfish and
Harry Nilsson that led me to Audities doorstep. And from there it was
everything from The Nits, The Parade, bubblegum, glam and beyond that kept
me here. Anyway, I'm hoping that if we collectively decide on a next step
that we use this forum (until it ends) to make clear how to complete our
change of address forms. Deal?

Sorry for the ramble. Best to all,

-craig
