Mike,
In answer to your question, which may have been tongue and cheek, yes I actually listen to entire albums.I have a ritual for all new albums. For their first listen through ,I play them on head phones late at night when I am alone.I may have a Mojo in my lap ,but I study the packaging and liner notes,if any while the album plays. This dates all the way back to my music retail days when I would get a new release by an artist I really cared about.A few examples would be all Todd Rundgren/Utopia releases, Prefab Sprout, Kinks etc. But that was when I was getting a lot of releases a week due to being on mailing lists for promos. So I had to pick my late night choice. Now it is every pop purchase I make[yes,I still buy hard copies].Some times that first play will affect me.A good example would be the new Wilco or Club 8. Then there are the more difficult ones like Joanna Newsom.I received her album " Ys" for Christmas.I played it for the first time late last night and really didn't get much. But I started out this morning by playing it as I opened some e-mails and it already took some shape. The songs are starting to be songs for me and I liked her voice more. I look forward to hearing it some more.I just received the latest Sambassadeur album which I pre-ordred at Darla. That will be the next one I will give a debit listen to.
Every once in a while I will put an old favorite on and just listen to it all the way through.Again, I may have the newspaper handy, but I often stop what I may be doing to hear a favorite tune or even follow the lyrics.
So that's what I do. I take an album very seriously.I feel that first time is important.
