In a classic bit of busman's holidayness, I celebrated the finishing
of a rather heavy deadline by pottering around the office, playing
fetch with the cats and listening to new albums I hadn't had time to
listen to before today, specifically the upcoming releases by Los
Campesinos! (lots of fun, but I was slightly disappointed that two of
the strongest songs were retreads from the EP), Destroyer (a bit more
straightforward than his last few, closer to an album's worth of his
songs for the New Pornographers) and Syd Matters (French quartet with
a major Nick Drake fixation).

I've rarely been one for just hanging out on the couch with the
headphones on, actually: one reason why I embraced the iPod so
fervently was it allowed me a lot more freedom of movement. I
actually often wear mine in the house, just because it allows me to,
say, go to the basement and put the clothes in the dryer, then go to
the living room and clean the birdcages, and then go to the pantry and
clean the catboxes, while I'm still listening to whatever I'm
listening to. It doesn't tie me to one room.
