I still have a Marshall Crenshaw vinyl 12-inch titled "U.S. Remix" (adding:
"Only available in U.K." on the front) that features Our Town, For Her Love,
Monday Morning Rock, Little Sister (recorded live for King Biscuit Flower
Hour) and For Her Love (extended mix).

I vaguely recall the production controversy Steve Alter mentioned. I think
that Steve Lillywhite's resume speaks for itself but these Remix versions
absolutely blow the album/CD tracks away. I used to credit this to the 45
RPM bandwidth but John Luongo, Jay Mark and Michael Hutchinson simply came
up with better results to these ears. I wish Rhino would give Field Day the
same re-release treatment they gave the first album. I always liked Field
Day better than the debut album and song-for-song they are as strong a 1-2
punch as any pop albums in my collection.

I own 18/20, 46/50, 79/100 and 131/200 from John Borack's book list. I
picked up steam looking for titles after reading Carl Cafarelli's 1-5-1996
Goldmine article (The Kids Are Alright! - The History of Power Pop), along
with John Borack's article from the same issue (Top of The Pops - 50
Essential U.S. Power Pop Albums). John authored another article for
Goldmine on 2-12-1999 titled: 25 Essential Power Pop Albums that cost me
even more hard earned cash. It's interesting to see how his favorites
changed along the way. A special thanks to John, Bruce, Ray, Jeremy and
many others for sharing music that has meant so much to me over the years.

"Our Town" is a masterpiece, I think the best think he ever wrote and
recorded. People bashed Steve Lillywhite's production, but it's genius on
that tune. I remember telling Marshall how much I loved size of the thing
and the sound of the chimes, and him saying how there were no chimes and
trying to explain to a layman how that they got that sound. Great stuff!

Marshall Crenshaw? "Our Town" or "Monday Morning Rock", both from Field Day.
