"Some of the stuff I've done you could call power pop," he told an
interviewer. "But the term does have sort of a dodgy connotation."

I haven't read John B's book, but I dig the controversy. Love arguing
about lists. I grew up listening to the Beatles, Costello, The Police,
The Replacements, Bowie, The Clash... all of it is power pop to me. I'm
sure my list would be an utter mess. Congrats on publishing a book,
John.

Bob Segarini, your rant was hi-larious. Honestly, I've only seen your
name and your bands' names through this list and I've never heard any of
your music. But I'm sure it's not crap... to you. And that's the best
any of us can hope for.

On to a subject I thought would be a cool discussion topic for the list.

I have Marshall Crenshaw's 1st album on my IPod. That's his quote above,
by the way. Was "Mary Anne" ever a single? If not - or regardless,
really - what non-single or 'non-popular' song from an artist you like
would you recommend to a non-fan? "Mary Anne" slays me every time I hear
it. "Poor Napolean" off of Costello's 'Blood & Chocolate' album is
another, and why "Let Down" off of Radiohead's 'OK Computer' wasn't a
single, and a huge hit, is beyond me.

Anyway, if this is a lame topic I apologize. Otherwise, commence
discussion!

Matt
