> New Model Army! Can you mini-review?
You damn betcha, I can! I've been following these guys almost as long as
I have XTC, which is saying something.
High is a return to Thunder and Consolation form from NMA. Justin's
lyrics are just as pointed as ever ("And save us from these
justifications when every one of them is a lie / Pax Americana reigns
and rains from two miles in the sky"), and there is the requisite amount
of introspection in the lyrics as well. Nelson on bass is in rare form
(jangly connection here, he's the bassist for Martin Newell), and the
addition of Marshall Gill on guitar has done the band no disservice.
After a lackluster, for me, couple of albums, High is worth every penny
it takes to get a New Model Army record here in the States.
