All my life, in the town I grew up in, I would hear early Beatles on
the radio and that was fine. One of the first albums I owned was
'Beatles Blue' - with the blue vinyl - which was the coolest thing
ever at the time - and I spent many hours with that.
But! - I never knew the albums very well - except Sgt. Pepper - and
recently (in the last couple years) - picked them all up. It was a
tough slog - and I kinda ignored them in the same way that I ignored
my Kinks reissues. But - after picking up that 'Revolution In The
Head' book that was recommended on the list - I've been listening and
reading and obsessing and it's been great fun.
For xmas - I got the box set 'official' documentary thing - and
reveled in the concert footage and my parents picked up that BBC thing
for me that was mentioned recently (all by themselves with no mention
from me!) - so that was cool too.
I've now decided that 'Revolver' is the greatest thing ever and that I
agree with George Martin about leaving Strawberry and Penny Lane off
Sgt. Pepper to have a new single was a bad move.
Thanks Audities peoples! (for keeping me excited about music new and old).
