Woke up this morning and realized I forgot to include
a few CDs that should have ranked higher than a few I
did list. If it's not too late, here is my corrected
list (I just stuffed the ones I forgot in where they
go, but didn't get rid of any previously listed) :)
1) Len Price 3 - Rent A Crowd - A disc I'm surprised
more people didn't mention, considering that it
reminds me a bit of The Monkees, but with a harder
garage edge.
2) The Orchid Highway - (self titled)
3) Fountains of Wayne - Traffic and Weather
4) The Red Button - She's About to Cross My Mind
5) The Cheeks - Raw Countryside
6) NuShu - Nevermind Lullabye
7) The Orion Experience - Cosmic Candy - I gotta agree
with Mr Rist on this one! These hooks won't stay
outta my head!!
8) The Look - Popularity Boom - A great SF based band
that deserves WAY more attention. Imagine the 88 with
Sinatra-esque classic coolness.
9) The Resonars - Nonetheless Blue - reminds me a bit
of The Gripweeds, and might have been in the top 5,
except that some of their psychedelic touches seem to
be there just to show off their psychedelic chops
without adding to the quality of the song.
10) The Maggots - Monkeytime! - This is one a lot of
people on the list might like - farfisas, searing
guitars - totally fun...and available in the US on
Wicked Cool!
11) Graham Day & The Gaolers - Soundtrack to the Daily
Grind
12) Mark & The Spies - (self titled)
13) The Makes Nice - This Time Tomorrow
14) Fast Camels - The Magic Optician
15) Poplord - (self titled) - great harmony pop from
central california! (Another one I think others on the
list might love, but that I haven't seen mentioned
much)
16) The Procession - Musique Magnifique
17) The Fore - Black & White - Love that early
Merseybeat sound!!
18) Lucky Soul - The Great Unwanted
19) Peachfuzz - Catch Your Snap
20) Fratellis - Costello Music
21) Army of Freshmen - Under the Radar - great punk
pop disc, but made even better by a couple of songs on
it with amazing Beach Boys style harmonies, which
caught me off guard coming from these guys!
22) Home - Theres No Place Like Home - An 8 song disc
that would have scored much higher if there was more
of it!
23) Black Tie Review - Code Fun
24) The Singles - Start Again
25) Cocktail Slippers - Mastermind
26) The Maharajas - In Pure Spite
27) Farrah - Cut Out and Keep
28) The Goodtime Charlies - Pillars of The Community
29) The Tor Guides - Honeybees and Tangerines
30) The Trip Wires - Makes You Look Around
31) Marmalade Souls - (Self titled)
32) Blackout 101 - (self titled) - thank you, Mr Bash,
for recommending that I check out this band!
33) The Well Wishers - How I Won The War
Honorable Mention (in no particular order):
The Lost 45s UK
Maple Mars
Third of Never
MxPx
Biggest Disappointment:
The Contrast - a band I absolutely love, but I guess
if you put out a CD a year for 5 years in a row,
there's bound to be one that's still very good, but
not quite as good as the rest.
Happy listening in 2008!
