The top 20 of any year is always hard because there are so many albums I
have still not heard or that I have not heard sufficiently. If I did this
list in June it would be a lot different. What amazes me about this list
now is the number of older artists who after some so-so releases came back
really strong this year - and I still need to give a lot more listens to
Graham Parker and Ian Hunter and McCartney's was pretty decent. I am sure
I have forgotten something, but here it is getting in under the wire:
1. Ray Davies - Workingman's Cafe
2. Red Button - She's About To Cross My Mind
3. the Doughboys - It's Now
4. Bruce Springsteen - Magic
5. Zombies of the Stratosphere - The Well Mannered Look
6. Lucinda Williams - West
7. Jimmy Ryan - Gospel Shirt
8. Sunday Drivers - Tiny Telephones
9. Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles - Diamonds in the Dark
10. Green Peppers - Domino Morning
11. Gerry Alvarez - Candy Pranksters
12. John Fogerty - Revival
13. Fast Camels - Magic Optician
14. Reasonars - Nonetheless Blue
15. Bobby Sutliff - On A LAdder
16. Ugly Beats - Take A Stand
17. Levon Helm - Dirt Farmer
18. Tripwires - Makes you Look Around
19. Breakup Society - Nobody Likes A Winner
20. Future Clouds and Radar
And if Jimmy Ryan is disqualified as an EP and if gerry Alvarez is actually
a 2006 release (not sure - but I got it this year) then:
21. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights (very new to me,
but by June I think it would rise up in the rankings)
22. The Autumn Defense - The Autumn Defense
Thanks
Bill
