S. Mason:

<<Again, I ain't seeing the whole pointed barb thing.>>

Well, certainly not in every post, Stewart (maybe I overstated a bit), but
certainly in his last 5-7...

<<What I *am* seeing, unfortunately, is that whenever people have made the
tiniest criticism of your Top 200 list, they tend to get piled on...>>

Not by me, certainly. When Aaron posted about the lack of women-fronted acts
in the top 200, I simply replied with my reasoning But I guess it's not so
much what people say, but HOW they say it. Reading juvenile crap such as
"hahahaha, he must be on crack" in reference to Mazzarella's essay just tweaks me.
If you don't care for it, fine. Say so. Just don't be a fucking THIRD
GRADER about it. (Oh, and don't call me "self-indulgent" for ranking albums that I
supposedly played on...but didn't.)

<<All I'm saying is that if, as David and Bruce claim, one of the points of
the book is to inspire debate about what was and wasn't included, why is it
that every time a debate comes up, it gets shouted down?>>

Again, it's not me doing the shouting, so I can't answer that. Hell, I know
everyone's top 200 will be different from mine; as a matter of fact, mine
would probably even be different if I had to do the rankings again. I got an
off-list e-mail yesterday from someone who mentioned a gaggle of discs they
thought should have been included. That was cool....I love to hear stuff like that.
I'm certainly not arrogant enough to think my opinion is the be-all and
end-all. It's just that - my opinion.

<<I've got no dog in this fight: I've dragged my feet in ordering a copy
simply because I have declared a full-on moratorium on any book purchasing
whatsoever until I start to see some movement in my backlog
of unread books, which at this point has, no kidding, grown to fill two full
5x3 bookcases and the entirety of the nightstand on my side of the bed, so I
honestly don't know if I agree with your list or not.>>

You won't. Myracle Brah and Material Issue are in there.

<<But lists like this, by their nature, are meant to inspire debate, and if
anything, I think it's both surprising and disappointing that so little
discussion -- positive OR negative -- has come out as a result of a book that clearly
people are buying, if the print run is almost exhausted.>>

I'm a little surprised as well, but such is life. Like I said before, I'd
love to hear what people think of the CD, the book, albums that they feel should
have been included, etc.
