So somewhere around here on vinyl I have what I believe is The Sherbs first
record called "The Skill". It has two songs that I remember being played on
the radio quite a bit as a teenager. The more popular tune was "No Turning
Back" and the other minor hit was "I Have The Skill". They have a very
synth-driven sound with some punchy clean guitar in the mix. Maybe they
sound a bit like Collins-fronted Genesis (circa "Abacab") without some of
the flash. They are maybe a bit like The Fixx or Saga...it's tough to peg
their sound because the lead singer's voice is quite different and
distinctive.

The Sherbs "Defying Gravity" was also released in 1979 and contained the hit
"We Ride Tonight" which is a very recognizable tune.

The cool thing is both of these Sherbs releases are available on iTunes now,
which means I won't have to rip my old vinyl.

I see that 707 is on iTunes, also. Their big hit was on the second album
called appropriately "The Second Album" and the tune was "I Could Be Good
For You". I don't recall the "Magic" album having even a minor hit but
their "Mega Force" album scored a very slight hit with the title track.

Whit

Got this for a dollar. I treat this Obscuro type stuff like a
scratch/lottery ticket: you hope you get a good one. I did. Good
hooks...wonder what any of them went on to. Anyone know?
They have one other album I'm yet to come across. How is it? Anyone?

>Keats, "Keats"
High hopes for this. The songs that Bluntstone sings are nice, but mostly
uneventful, song-wise.

>707, "Magic"
Seen but never heard this one. What was their hit?

>Spys, "Behind Enemy Lines"
Kind of americas answer to Europe, but tougher. Maybe vying for the John
Waite crowd.
Dated 80's production. One word: Reverb.
though with some pretty decent vocals. Guitars are ok.
Another great $1 find.
