1. Maple Mars - Beautiful Mess
I'm voting for my own album in the number one spot for
these selfish reasons: Took forever to finish. Honest
to the point of regret! Release was delayed due to
label snafu. A bootleg version available online -
(like the one advertised on CD Baby for Christ's
sake)! Blood, sweat, and tears!
2. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
Never really knew Ryan's music until a music
supervisor gave me an advance copy of this album.
Needless to say, I couldn't stop playing it. Very
early 70's California country rock with a Neil Young
vibe. "Halloween Head" is amazing! One of my favorite
songs of the year!
3. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Same music supervisor gave me this one, too. (God, I
wish I still had that connection!) Some say wimpy - I
say GREAT!
4. New Pornographers - Challengers
Not as good as "Twin Cinema", but still great.
5. Rogue Wave - Asleep At Heaven's Gate
In agreement with Jeff Shelton - "Lake Michigan" is an
outstanding song.
6. The Red Button - She's About to Cross My Mind
Saw these guys live at Spaceland and they rocked - or
should I say "jangled"! Sounds like 1965 with very
well crafted tunes ala The Hollies, Yellow Balloon,
Kinks, Beatles, etc...
7. Paul McCartney - Memory Almost Full
Sir Paul's new one is pure admiration. Thanks for all
the great music!
8.THE SHINS - Wincing The Night Away
Not as good as their first two albums, but still
pretty damn good!
9. NUSHU - Nevermind Lullabye
Love that Lisa Mychols!
10. The Bird And The Bee - The Bird And The Bee
First heard songs from their EP on KCRW in LA. The
full album contains much of the same with a few extra.
Sounds like Burt Bacharach slipping Dionne some acid!
Happy New Year!
