FAVORITE ALBUMS
1. Fountains of Wayne - "Traffic and Weather"
2. Winterpills - "The Light Divides"
** This band's male/female vocal blend is hypnotic, and their lead vocalist
and sole-songwriter, Phillip Price, is a genius.
http://www.myspace.com/winterpills
** The Winterpills lead guitarist, Dennis Crommett, released a really nice
solo album (The Evening Sorrow) at the end of 2006. He's got some of its
gentle songs streaming at:
http://denniscrommett.com/listen.html
** Important trivia: Phillip Price has been in a Northampton-based band
(the Gay Potatoes) with FOW's Chris Collingwood. There are some
recorded-at-a-show MP3s at:
http://www.philipprice.com/gaypotatoes/
3. The Red Button - "She's About to Cross My Mind"
4. Ryan Adams - "Easy Tiger"
5. The Bird and the Bee - "The Bird and the Bee"
6. Mika - "Life in Cartoon Motion"
7. America - "Here and Now"
8. Fionn Regan - "The End of History"
9. The Strangelings - "Season of the Witch"
** Very cool Pete and Maura Kennedy side-project: three female voices
fronting a sixtiesish band featuring electric sitar.

10. Trolleyvox - "Your Secret Safe / Luzerne"
11. Neil Young - "Chrome Dreams II"
12. The Pierces - "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge"
** Two sisters whose folk-rooted pop is heading to a TV or movie soundtrack
near you.
http://www.myspace.com/thepierces
13. The Orion Experience - "Cosmicandy"
** On the list just in case it's determined to be a 2007 release.
http://myspace.com/theorionexperience
14. The Well Wishers - "How I Won the War"
15. Maple Mars - "Beautiful Mess"
16. The Postmarks - "The Postmarks"
** Ivy-ish soft-pop mixed by Ivy's Andy Chase
http://www.myspace.com/thepostmarks
17. The Green Pajamas - "Box of Secrets (Northern Gothic, Season Two)"
18. The Broken West - "I Can't Go On, I'll Go On"
19. Iron and Wine - "The Shepherd's Dog"
20. Kim Richey - "Chinese Boxes"
FAVORITE COMPILATION
"Cinnamon Girl: Women Artists Cover Neil Young for Charity"
** Street date for this two-CD set is Valentine's Day 2008, but it's been
available for paid download for months now. Nice mix of well-known and
new-to-most indie performers.

FAVORITE SONGS
1. The Hiders - "Hesitation Wounds"
** Previously unreleased, this nicely-arranged (and fully-produced) ballad
is available as a free download at Billy Alletzhauser's Myspace page -- but
you've gotta scroll down the player a bit to see it:
http://myspace.com/billyalletzhauser
2. Fountains of Wayne - "Michael and Heather at the Baggage Claim"
3. The Bird and the Bee - "Fucking Boyfriend"
4. The Red Button - "Can't Stop Thinking About Her"
5. Jeremy Fisher - "Lay Down (The Ballad of Rigoberto Alpizar)"
** The "this is freedom" refrain in this song sticks in my head for hours
every time I hear it. Streaming at:
http://www.myspace.com/jeremyfisher
6. Winterpills - "Broken Arm"
7. Britney Spears - "Gimme More"
** Actually, I only like the edit I made of this one, eliminating the "It's
Britney, bitch" intro and the MC voice-over that touts Britney's
magnificence. Without those parts, this is one super-catchy record.
8. Colin Blunstone (as Neil MacArthur) - "Hung Upside Down"
** I think I hear Steve Stills in the background of this Springfield cover;
unreleased until Alec Palao's recent post-Zombies compilation ("Into the
Afterlife").
9. Jill Sobule (with John Doe) - "Down by the River"
** from the "Cinnamon Girl" compilation
10. Georgie James - "Cake Parade"
