I'd bet I'm not the only one who bought all the Charlie LPs for the covers, but ended up liking the music too.

Haven't seen anyone mention New England yet, whose three albums (the first of which was produced by Paul Stanley and the last by Todd Rundgren) are a fun mix of crunchy pop, hooky metal, and even a little prog. All available on eMusic and all definitely worth a listen.

Starz was another lite metal Kiss wannabe that veered more toward metal than pop, but their ATTENTION SHOPPERS! swings the other way, with more than a few nods to the Raspberries.

I'm assuming no one's mentioned The Babys or John Waite's solo work because they're obvious choices, right? Oooooh, The Babys opening up for Styx on the the CORNERSTONE tour, now that was a show. ;-)

If you like Charlie, grab FIGHT DIRTY, which is their best album, IMHO. "Killer Cut" is, in fact, killer and got a little airplay at the time. They're actually more jazz-pop, than AOR (Steve Gadd was their drummer) but good fun. City Boy is another British band of the era worth checking, leaning on the prog-pop side of AOR; you may know 5705, which I still hear on the radio every now and then.

Finally, I do have THE SKILL - bad pun fully intended - by The Sherbs; just found the CD for $1.99 and snapped it up, as I lost my vinyl long ago. It is a really good synth-poppy record of the time and pretty darn catchy. I digitize all of my music - go ahead, throw your bricks - and I won't get but a quarter for it used, so I'm happy to send it off in the mail to first asker.
