Hey John - Gabe's comment wasn't lame - it was very succinct and pretty
much hit the nail on the head: Mike's essay is pretentious drivel - the
emperor has no clothes on (imho).

The remainder of the book is fine, although your choices of albums seem
a bit LA-centric and including records that you've played on is somewhat
self-indulgent, given some of the other omissions (is the Receiver CD
really one of the 200 top power-pop albums?). However I will doff my cap
to you on highlighting "Portable Pop" by Late Show - it really is a cracker.

A folksy pop record?with tasteful, mostly acoustic arrangements of songs by the likes of Neil Young ('Little Wing"),?the Velvet Underground?("What Goes On"), Bob Marley ("Little Bird"), Gillian Welch ('Winters Come and Gone") and Woody Guthrie ("Who's My Pretty Baby"). Lovely singing by Mitchell with instrumental assistance from Daniel Littleton (her husband and bandmate in Ida) and His Name is Alive's Warren Defever. A true gem of a kids record that?kids?won't necessarily outgrow. My wife and I love it and we don't have children. If your daughter likes it you'll have her listening to Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and?some?of the better?folkies?in no time. And if she doesn't, you can still listen to it yourself.
