just got my copy yesterday... Bob Segarini has already noted the lack
of Wackers and his solo debut... no mention of Dave Rave (his Shakers
lps probably never made it past the Canadian border, I guess, but he
did have Jack Richardson (The Guess Who) produce many tracks)... I
would rank many of Generation X's finest singles as power pop ("Ready
Steady Go" firmly tells you where they're coming from, their Valley
of the Dolls album incredible as are all the related b-sides)...
great to see The Soft Boys (I released Underwater Moonlight first in
North America on Attic Records with bonus tracks... imagine my
surprise when I phoned the band in New York and the bass player tells
me they've just broken up....hahahhaaa.... anyway, that led to
Kimberley Rew sending over the Katrina & The Waves indie lp to Attic
and the rest you know...)... The Boyfriends (US band)... some
Canadians like The Jitters, Sherry Keane, Minutes From Downtown,
Pointed Sticks, Modernettes, Hi-Fis (pre-Blue Rodeo), The Numbers
(later morphed into Hot Tip), The Extras... some of the Canuckophiles
(Jaimie Vernon) should have contributed an overview... and Pagliaro?
He actually recorded in Abbey Road....
but it's all armchair quarterbacking... it's a great looking book....
lots of stuff....maybe too Americentric for me (The Barracudas at
#54? what?!) but great for endless hours of discussion... this is an
important work and a great reference as there's lots in here I didn't
know about...
well done!!
