I guess I've been spoiled all my life. I grew up in
LaCrosse Wisconsin with Deaf Ear & Tree Records. Both
stores were well-stocked and run by "music fans," who
even took us on road trips to see concerts. I moved to
Milwaukee and was fortunate enough to land a job at
Atomic Records (Yes, they have listening stations, a
great selection, lots of vinyl and would also mail
order anything for you (before the days when everyone
else figured out how to do it themselves). Now I'm in
Austin and have Waterloo Records - They may teeter
between the mom-n-pop and the big box type store -
But, they have a great selection, in-store
appearances, vinyl, zines, books, DVD's, 45's,
listening stations, DJ testing stations, and sometimes
surly employees.
