I'm always surprised by the anti-Hootie virulence that surfaces when
people talk about them.
They make some pretty, respectable, four-square pop music. Mark
Bryan, their lead guitar player, made a pretty good power-pop record
a few years back with the help of Don Dixon and Jamie Hoover (if I'm
remembering correctly). And they continue to provide Peter Holsapple
with a way to support his family as their touring guitar/keyboard
player.
And if they're the luckiest bar band on earth, so be it.
There are far worse ways to make a living.
