Hi Michael,
Yep...The Toons and John Stewart were my regular reasons to visit Chucks.
On a related note, there was a Kingston Trio documentary on PBS today, and
it will be on again tomorrow night. I was sooooo lucky to see them play a
show at a small club in Ghirardelli Square about 10 years ago (with Bob
Shane and Nick Reynolds!). They sang with gusto, and hung with the crowd
between sets. A special night!
It would almost be worth being 15 years older to have been able to catch the
old beatnik/Hungry i/north beach/lenny bruce/hootenanny folk scene in its
prime.
Marty

Because whilst you were swilling & spilling at Chuck's, I was
awash in poopy diapers an hour south in Watsonville. Though
when I lived behind Tower Records in '79 I did catch one of
John Stewart's regular gigs there (just down El Camino).
I understand Chuck's was also known as the first place Linda
Ronstadt's performed with her now infamous backup band. And
I was very sorry to have missed Kate Wolf as I understand she
was also a regular.
