Here's the review of the album I did for Amplifier.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts...

Howie Day - Stop All The World Now

Epic (epicrecords.com)

In recent years major labels have left no stone unturned when it comes to
looking for hot, young singer-songwriter talent to fill the broad,
alarmingly homogenized commercial music format that is known as AAA (Adult
Album Alternative). Twenty-two year old Howie Day is Epic Records' latest
addition to this bandwagon of mediocrity. While the Bangor, Maine native has
a formidable talent that begets most performers his age, his muse is still
that of soulless windbags like David Gray, John Mayer, and Dave Matthews.
"Stop All The World Now", his 2nd full-length release is wrought with
instrumentation and over-production that tends to minimize his more
stripped-down, coffeehouse-based talents as an acoustic performer. Perhaps
Day's biggest asset and saving grace for this album is his voice; a rich,
full-bodied tenor that wavers from a Bono-esque rasp to the pure, emotional
tone of Jeff Buckley or Ryan Adams. The catchy, tap-along melodies of
"Brace Yourself" and "Perfect Time of Day" are a few of the bright footnotes
to an album that is, unfortunately, rather lackluster and forgettable.
Hopefully, as Day further develops his career in the big leagues, he'll swap
his penchant for B-grade lovelorn lyrics and over-production for a deeper
look inside his potential as a more formidable singer-songwriter.
