As a member of the Sparks forum I'm sure it was mastered from vinyl and apparently some of the copies skip on "ladies" at a certain time...even the downloaded iTunes copies skip on some players. Talk about retro-quality.
It's also f'ing $35!?!?!?! on Amazon as an import because it was made in the UK, but the label is Sparks' own...and they're from L.A. for doo-doo's sake.
I have a pristine copy of Introducing on vinyl and have burned it and the quality,I'm sure,surpasses
what's out now as legit product. They had to have lost the master tapes. There really isn't any other excuse that's acceptable.
I was really looking forward to the release as it was one of my favorites- having become a Sparksaholic recently. THe folks who were receiving their long awaited copies from the site(which offered early delivery if purchased ahead of time.), were mostly disappointed. There's some edits to beginnings of songs and the whole skipping issue as well as the sound quality from vinyl on tracks at the end of the record(each side) just sounding a bit distorted. My own transferred copy will do just fine.
Now, if they'll just make a DVD boxset of the upcoming 21 Albums in 21 Nights tour.
Hopefully not mastered from VHS. ;-}
