These assertions below are frankly a little ignorant and short-sighted

I think if you asked any self respecting band who considered themselves
"punk" ...they would tell you it's about doing things their own way...
without allegiance anything or anyone (ie: the music industry) other
than themselves and their fans. That has nothing to do with aggression.

Even though I consider him an over-rated twat, Ryan Adams pointed out
(in that very SPIN article I believe) that the Grateful Dead may very well
be the quintessential punk band. Go figure!
