Jaimie, I agree with your choice of melodic punk bands, but disagree
that the Pistols had no melodies. The thing with the Pistols is that
the chord progressions WERE basically the melodies (the bass almost
invariably tracks the root of each chord all the way through).
Rotten's voice added an abrasive quality as well as spitting out his
wonderful venomous words. The power of that band as harnessed on
Bollocks by Chris Thomas was just awesome.
