The list is interesting, to be sure. I may be in the minority, but in
almost every case I find a live album to be a fun novelty that wears
off after a few listens, after which I go back to an artist's studio
albums. The only real exceptions are albums that contain songs
that are not on the studio albums, or are in vastly different versions.
An obvious example of the former is KICK OUT THE JAMS, but I never
really liked that one too much. After years of collecting, the only
live albums that remain in rotation at my home are VELVET UNDERGROUND
1969 LIVE, which has some vastly different versions of some of their
songs (and, admittedly a few really weak versions, such as "Rock And Roll"),
MODERN LOVERS LIVE (for the extended "Ice Cream Man"), and the two
live Crack The Sky albums (one official, one radio promo only) because of the
absolutely amazing extended versions of "Ice."

Anyone want to champoin any live albums that are great specifically because
there are some songs that are extended/improved upon from the studio
versions?

And extended does not necessarily work...there's nothing more boring than live
Cream or Led Zeppelin.
