My home phono-to-computer setup is kaput. I'm interested in
experience folks have with either turntables or phono preamps
with built-in A/D & USB out. Just the hardware, as I have
my own software products which I would continue to use.
Why USB?:
* Ugh: turntable -> preamp/amp -> soundcard -> computer
plus all the associated cables. Dedicated PC.
* No longer need cassette or other audio input to PC.
* Use my laptop 95% of the time, with no audio "line" in.
* Portable: just turntable -> laptop; setup anywhere.
USB Turntables I've read about (w/swag price):
* Ion TTUSB10 ($100)
- entry level made by Numark, too low-end for me
* Numark TTUSB ($170)
- pitch control, replaceable cartridge
- reviews all over the map, dunno who to trust
* Numark TTXUSB ($360)
- rugged DJ turntable, direct-drive
* Stanton T.90 USB ($300)
- rugged DJ turntable, direct-drive
* Pro-ject Debut III USB ($440)
- rated high by Hi-End audio folks, new - few US dealers
I've also read about one Phono preamp w/ USB out, the
Pro-Ject Phonobox II USB ($180) which gets high marks
from Hi-End'ers. But I prefer the all-in-one solution.
Note: I am not interested in turntables with built-in
preamps with analog out.
Any guidance from your experience with products along
these lines is most appeciated.
