Hi,
I look forward to IPO every year, there's a friendly vibe that I seldom see at other gigs. This was exemplified last night with the closing act, The Dave Rave Group. Just a few long time friends making music together - Dave was joined on stage by Gary "Pig" Gold and Shane Faubert, and then by special guests Michael Mazzarella of The Rooks, Chris Peck, once of Oral Groove and Mannix, and Chris Mehos of the Ghost Rockets.
Another enjoyable group, if only for their humor on stage, was The Attorneys. They announced that they were doing pro bono work last night! The lead singer, Billy Ryan George, had a high voice that reminded me of Russ Mael, and a tattoo of three large balls arranged in a triangle, pawnshop style, on his hand. Artists! But it was their drummer Ken Weisbach who impressed the most musically, he really pounded the drums into submission.
I enjoyed the newly refurbished sound system at the Baggot Inn, less so the poisonous replica of Coca-Cola (the bar did not serve bottled water, and I'm seldom in the mood for something stronger).
There was a fairly large crowd, but I think perhaps we may be issuing last rites for the CD. My friend Grethel, the merch person, only sold two discs the entire night, even at bargain prices.
I promised Omar of The Brand that I would help publicize his band's performance Saturday afternoon, they are one of my favorites.
Again, props to David Bash for his hard work to make this happen.
