Appropo of not much really, but I'm chiming in (can you hear me
chimin'?) to report that I finally bought a record that's been on my
Want List for a long, long time and now I'm kicking myself for not
picking it up much sooner. It's Juliana Hatfields "Beautiful Creature"
from way back in 2000. How did I miss this, fan that I am? Anyway, AMG's
Stephen Thomas Erlewine says:

"... it's the best album she's made since made since the heyday of "Hey
Babe". Melodic, wistful, whimsical, reflective, yet clever, the album
showcases Hatfield at her peak, crafting fragile, endearing post-jangle
pop songs that reveal themselves shyly and sweetly. Her girlish voice
and almost painfully introspective vantage may still be an acquired
taste, but she hasn't sounded as focused and consistently tuneful as she
has here in many a year."

I've been listening to it nearly every day since I bought it a month or
so ago. I love it that much. It's so rare that something rockets to the
top of my list the way this one has. It's really grabbed me. Just a
head's up in case anyone's been thinking about getting it or just wants
to try something new. I know that she's not everyone's cup of tea, but I
think this is the finest record she's made.

Happy Listening!
