Well, at least on the new Eagles album every single note is in its perfect place and....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ooops, sorry I was listenting to the new Eagles album while typing and all that hermetically sealed perfection put me right to sleep. :-) (OK, there's a few songs on this sprawl that keep me awake, but you get the point.)

Why can't the DIY set and the Berklee School folks just get along? I love and admire brilliant musicianship, but it's not necessarily the key to brilliant music. The fact that the playing on Springsteen's first few records is mostly awful, for intstance, doesn't dim the power of those songs for me. Ditto for "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or "She's Lost Control", and the music of the bands Mark cites below.

Yeah, just like the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Velvet Underground, the New York Dolls etc. etc. What nerve to think that they should actually get up on stage and play music before mastering their instruments. And we all know those bands never went on to influence anyone....
