Not so suprising considering the Joy Division was just another bunch of wanks that could barely play...

That is true. I read that they originially planned to dub the Joy Division
songs to the filmed live perfomances, but the actors took to their roles and
instruments so quckly and so well, they chose to leave the group
performances intact. I saw some original live performances of JD on YouTube
and it is pretty remarkable how much the actors were able to recreate the
look and sound.
