There's this guy I work with who's kind of a dick. He's talented but lazy.
He's easily distracted and tends to subtly blame others for his screwups.
Yesterday, four of us were in the break area waiting for our boss as we
sipped coffee and watched the SoCal fire news on TV. The news reporter was
visiting the charred remains of a private home in San Diego County,
interviewing a tearful homeowner about how she had installed a system of
groundwater pumps that were supposed to automatically kick on in such
circumstances. For some reason, they didn't come on and she lost her house.
She told the reporter, "I have no idea why the pumps didn't work."
In unison, I and my dickish co-worker blurted, "Because the vandals took the
handles."
So now I don't hate the guy anymore.
