I got word over the weekend that my band's live album with Alan Boyd from earlier this year, LONG PROMISED ROAD: SONGS OF DENNIS AND CARL WILSON LIVE got onto the Grammy ballots in six categories, due to some vigorous work by a promoter/Beach Boys fan.
Obviously, being on the ballot is just a "nomination to be nominated" but it's still kinda cool.? If anyone out there is a NARAS member and a Beach Boys fan, the pertinent categories are #1 Record of the Year (Ballot Entry #371), #2 Album of the Year (Ballot Entry # 312), #3 Song of the Year (Ballot Entry # 655), #4 Best New Artist (Ballot Entry # 192), #7 Best Pop Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocal (Ballot Entry # 062), #11 - Best Pop Vocal Album (Ballot Entry # 133).
Song of the Year would be particularly cool since it would garner Dennis Wilson a Grammy nom 24 years after his death as a songwriter.
There are tracks from the album posted at www.myspace.com/denniscarltour, and Evie Sands (our guitar player and vocalist on the track) has the nominated song, "Wouldn't It Be Nice to Live Again," up at her page: www.myspace.com/eviesands.? We'll also have it up on our page shortly.? It's the first official release of a never-bootlegged 1971 Beach Boys track.
There's apparently a decent campaign underway for the album among the NARAS crowd, but since I myself don't travel in Grammy voting circles, the best I can do is annoying posts like this one...so here I post.
