Hi Everyone,
I wanted to post about these albums, which I recently received from two
Auditeers we know and love, Luke Jackson and Rob Winder, respectively...
Favorita is the band which Magnus Borjeson, the main man and musical genius
behind Beagle, the best band which ever came out of Sweden, IMHO, formed not
long after Beagle broke up in 1994. This disc of which I'm speaking
contains Favorita's heretofore unreleased album, as well as some b-sides and
other bonus goodies. To my ears, Favorita's sound, for the most part, only
bears a passing resemblance to the sparkling, harmony-filled pop of Beagle,
rather favoring a quirkier, modern rock style but without ever sacrificing
an ounce of melodic integrity. It's really great stuff, and both Magnus and
the band are highly dynamic!
The new album by Jackdaw4 is the aptly titled Bipolar Diversions, as
virtually every song has abrupt chord, tempo, and stylistic changes which
reflect various moods. However, the most salient quality of the album are
the rather striking structures, strongly reminscent of "Spilt Milk" by
Jellyfish, as well as '70s pop/prog in general. Top notch singing, playing,
and songwriting all the way, with a bit of a sense of humor at times.
Both albums are, to coin a well-beloved phrase, extremely highly
recommended!
You can purchase the Favorita disc from Popsicle Recordings at
