"A Routine Day" was the first Canadian animated music video...ever. It was
one of seven songs that were part of a larger Klaatu animated special called
'Happy New Year Planet Earth'. The production took so long to complete that
the animation company ran out of funds and it was never finished (a 33
minute rough cut has been shown at fan gatherings for the past decade by the
band members). Only this one song was ever finalized and released to promote
the 'Sir Army Suit' album by Capitol-EMI Canada in early 1979. They own it.
MuchMusic airs it infrequently....usually as part of their BackTrax program.
There had been talk of licensing it from EMI Canada for this current DVD
project (similarly with the band's 1974 TV appearance on 'Keith Hampshire's
Music Machine' and the unfinished 'Happy New Year Planet Earth')., but that
would have meant sharing the limited wealth from sales and binding our
ability to distribute the project globally.
Bottom line is....you can't buy it anywhere.
Dave Bradley, who is also on this mailing list and owns the official Klaatu
website (www.klaatu.org), may have an idea if there's a better version
floating around out there....it has occasionally been posted on some fan
sites.
