I agree. The sheer level of craft and obvious love for the source
music raises the "Fraternal Order" project up to Rutles heights, above
something like Roger Klug's "Clem Comstock" album or even XTC's "Dukes
of Stratosphear," (which I love dearly but to me is just an XTC album
in a paisley shirt.)
But since the original question had to do with which Andrew Gold
albums were worth investigating, remember that "Fraternal Order" is
hardly representative of Gold's "normal" stuff. And let's not discount
the contributions of Graham Gouldman to its success.
