I thought Stewart's point was well taken vis-a-vis some folks don't like stuff just because it's popular. That's generally reflected in criticisms that fail to specify and often focus on things other than the music (which is easy to do with Winehouse). If the criticisms were more like yours, and detailed what one didn't like about her, then that shifts the debate into a different arena.
I don't hear the Mariah/Xtina showboating from Winehouse. She may do a bit of that, but that's not the dominant characteristic of her singing. On some songs, here phrasing is very artful, in the tradition of old jazz and blues singers. My favorite performance by Winehouse is her singing on "Valerie" (a Zutons track) on the fab Mark Ronson album.
