First off, Kitty, welcome. Always very good to see some new blood
here.
However, you'll quickly learn that there's a small contingent of
Auditeers for whom anything that achieves any level of mainstream
commercial success is automatically beneath contempt. So there you
go.
But if you haven't heard her yet, do check out Sharon Jones: as
someone else mentioned, producer Mark Ronson has used her backing
band, the Dap-Kings, on both Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen's albums. I
think her 2005 album NATURALLY is a good starting point.
